Macy’s will be hosting its 42nd Annual Fourth of July Fireworks display on Wednesday, July 4th, 2018. Over the East River, accompanied by a patriotic score, 3,000 shells and effects will go off per minute from the seven barges stationed from East 23rd and East 42nd Street.
The sparks will fly again this year for Macy’s 42nd Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Show, where the nation’s largest Independence Day celebration will return to the East River for the fourth summer in a row. Around 9:25pm, over 75,000 shells and effects will be launched from seven barges located from 23rd to 42nd Street on the East River. The Pyrotechnic Spectacular will be accompanied by a patriotic score from the West Point Band and Glee Club, featuring a special rendition of “God Bless America” from superstar Kelly Clarkson. If you’re in NYC and want to view the fireworks, you’re in luck. With many viewing locations across Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, you can make your Fourth of July celebration yours – and memorable.
Major viewing areas will be along the FDR Drive at 23rd, 34th, and 42nd Streets. These areas will get crowded quickly, so get there early to secure a spot. For another great place to view, enter through the 20th and 23rd streets to catch this visual spectacular at this ADA location on 18th Street and Avenue C.
Domino Park, Williamsburg’s newest waterfront park, will provide a great framing view of the night show, as will the nearby Grand Ferry Park. These locations are farther from the action – perfect for those who want to view from afar. Want to be closer to the action and stay in Brooklyn? View the celebration from the northernmost part of the borough at WNYC Transmitter Park, where you will get to view closer than those on the Williamsburg waterfront.
Rivaling those Manhattan views, LIC’s prime waterfront location makes it a real contender for viewing the fireworks. For unobstructed views of the East River, directly across from four of the barges, get to Gantry Plaza State Park or to Hunter’s Point South Park early. Even better if you’re a resident at one of our Center Boulevard buildings – go ahead and take advantage of your floor-to-ceiling windows, your personal terrace, and the landscaped roof deck! Please be mindful that there may be holiday specific rules, so please watch for direct communication about any building-specific updates.
Keep In Mind
As crowds build, some locations will be closed off and spectators will be redirected to additional access points. In addition, fireworks viewing points and access to them are subject to change at the discretion of the NYPD. Macy’s has advised not to bring lawn chairs or blankets to the show and if you’re viewing from a park, please respect the park’s rules and regulations. As public parking will not be available near access points, transporting by car is not advised. Using public transportation will be your best bet as NYC Transit will increase subway service before and after the show. Don’t forget to get your roundtrip fare filled prior to the fireworks to avoid the long lines after and don’t forget that any bus service near the fireworks will be rerouted. For more information on transportation please visit Macy's website.
