Although it seems like spring has just sprung, summer is officially moving in to steal the spotlight. The temperatures are higher, the days are longer, and the streets are packed with people who are sick of being stuck indoors.
If you and your partner are looking to enjoy the weather together, there are tons of fun, outdoorsy date activities to enjoy this summer.
The Loeb Boathouse in Central Park
A romantic boat ride seems like something out of a romantic comedy, because it totally is. If you can get over the cheese-factor, then you and your date will absolutely love the Loeb Boathouse.
Nestled right in the middle of Central Park, this hidden gem provides a tranquil backdrop away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The boathouse is open from April through October, weather permitting, and boat rentals are on a first come first served basis.
If boating isn’t your thing, you can also rent bikes and ride throughout the park. The restaurant and outdoor bar are a great place to eat and unwind before or afterwards. To learn more about rentals, schedules, and bar or restaurant reservations, check out their website.
Outdoor Film Series Across New York City
Dinner and a movie is always a solid date night agenda. But instead of dropping a month’s rent on tickets and popcorn, why not try the cheap, fun option of an outdoor movie screening? This summer, there are several free outdoor film screenings being held all over the city.
In Brooklyn, SummerScreen offers free screenings of classic ‘80s and ‘90s films like Clueless (July 8th), Dirty Dancing (July 22nd), and Jurassic Park (August 5th) in McCarren Park. Hudson RiverFlicks in Chelsea will be showing some of last year’s biggest blockbuster hits, including Neighbors (July 15th), Selma (Jully 22nd), and Interstellar (August 19th).
If you’re dating a history buff or happen to be one yourself, then you’ll love the Intrepid’s Summer Movie Series. Each week, patriotic films like October Sky, (July 9th), Apollo 13, (July 30th) and Wall-E (August 6th) are screened on the flight deck. These are just a few of the free movie festivals going on this summer. For the full list of outdoor movies and schedules, check out NYC Go!

Although sunshine and warm weather are great, sometimes you just need relief from the heat. If that’s the case, then your best option might be an old fashioned sit down dinner with drinks and plenty of air conditioning.
