Upper East Side
A unique and pleasing feature of the Upper East Side is that the inviting community welcomes a mix of residents from students to professionals and families.
What used to be a dry entertainment desert is now the posh mixed with fun, complete with rich culture and architecture. In fact, the diversity of UES residents is reflected in the steadily increasing variety of area bars and restaurants, from simple cafes to sophisticated, top-rated wine bars and globally recognized fine dining establishments.
Situated between East 59th and 110th Streets, Upper East Side Manhattan, also known as UES, stretches from Central Park to the East River. The most priceless buildings in the Upper East Side may be located along the Fifth Avenue "Museum Mile." Museums and art galleries here include the Guggenheim, The Frick Collection and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Another famous section is Hospital Row. Top research and health-care facilities here include the world-renowned Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital, and Rockefeller University.
A hidden UES jewel is the Roosevelt Island Tramway, connecting gorgeously manicured Roosevelt Island on the East River to Manhattan at 60th Street. For less than five brief minutes, riders gaze at the seasonal beauty below as they float above the city and river. The Upper East Side is also prized for its excellent public and specialized schools, as well as private clubs and some of the city's most exclusive Madison Ave, Fifth Ave and Park Ave shops, boutiques, and salons.
